Arabic Name Puzzle
As we begin the start of the new school year, I have been making a mental note of a few things I hope to focus on with the kids over the next year. My daughter recently turned 4 and I can definitely see a growth in her maturity level. She is able to think more critically, understand more and is very curious and inquisitive. My son who is almost 2, copies everything his sister does and picks up so much from her. The perks of siblings :).
One of the things on my list is to focus more attention on Arabic. We have been working on learning the Arabic alphabet in the hope that we can make some progress towards learning to read the Quran as they get older iA. At this stage, while they are eager to learn and a sponge for new information, I want to make sure I give attention to these important topics. However, I am cognizant that I still keep learning as fun as possible.
We have been practicing the Arabic alphabet through singing, making posters and games. One of the things that excites my daughter the most is associating the letters she learns with the names of people she knows and of course her own name.
Children love their own names. It is one of the first things they will hear and learn. When it comes to reading and writing, it is no different. You learn to read and write your name before anything else.
We have a wooden English name puzzle that my kids love playing with and I have been wanting to find a way for them to become more familiar with their names in Arabic too. We created this simple cardboard Arabic name puzzle, of my daughter’s name in Arabic (Leila Fatema). I already see her connecting the dots between the Arabic letters she knows and those in her name. She is also now recognizing her name in Arabic and this visual reminder will continue to reinforce it for her iA.
What You’ll Need:
Two rectangular pieces of thick cardboard (Any box you have would work)
Colored paper
X-acto knife
Glue
scissors
Step 1:
Cut two identical rectangles from your cardboard box
Step 2:
Draw and cut a slightly smaller rectangle from one of the pieces leaving a frame like boarder.
Stick this rectangular boarder onto the other piece of card.
The smaller rectangle you cut out will be the puzzle.
Step 3:
Cut out the Arabic name/word you wish to apply to the puzzle from the colored paper.
Glue this on to the rectangle cut out. (Be sure to glue well).
Step 4:
Cut this rectangle piece into your desired number of puzzle pieces.
