Ka'bah/Tawaf Board Game -> Hajj/Umrah Craft
Learning should always be fun. This is something I strived to achieve with The Prophet Series and am trying hard to ensure when teaching my daughter; be it about religion or anything else. So when thinking about how to talk to my 4 year old about what Hajj is (also applicable for Umrah) and what it means, I wanted to make sure that whatever we did was fun.
This project started off as just a model of the Ka’bah (a rotating Ka’bah to be exact :)). We talked about what the Ka’bah is and its importance to Muslims alongside our book ‘Ibrahim the Builder’. (Visit our shop for more details about this book and others in the series)
We then moved on to the topic of tawaf, and the act of walking around the Ka’bah 7 times. Our model then evolved into a board game, with each player having to get their 7 pieces around the Ka’bah 🕋. Needless to say my daughter loved it!
As a whole we have been focusing on the core principles that Hajj teaches and simple take aways. It’s amazing how much children can learn from such a young age and how curious they are Mashallah.
What You’ll Need:
Tissue box
Circular piece of card (We used a base from a frozen pizza)
Black and white paint
Gold paper (paint would also work)
Colored paper
Die
Something to use as the counters (we used glass pebbles from the dollar store)
Split pin (optional)
Step 1:
Paint the tissue box black and the circular base white.
Step 2:
Once the paint has dried add the gold detailing for the Ka’bah rim and door.
Step 3:
Glue the base of the Ka’bah onto the center of the circular base.
(Optional) Use a split pin to attach the base of the Ka’bah and the circular base. This will enable the Ka’bah to rotate. Just a fun add on, not necessery.
Step 4:
Cut triangular pieces or arrow shapes from some colored paper. These will be glued around the outside edge of the base and act as the stepping stones for the game.
Be sure to stick the arrows in an anti clockwise direction, as this is the direction of tawaf. (Additional teaching point!)
Step 5:
Include the start spot on the board. We wrote Allahu Akbar as this is commonly said when starting each circulation.
Give each player 7 counters. Role and enjoy!
